Due to the complexity of immigration laws, many people need assistance in dealing with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and navigating the naturalization process. While there are many businesses providing excellent immigration assistance, there are dishonest ones engaging in fraud and victimizing immigrants. Therefore, the New York State Department of State Division of Consumer Protection has developed a guide to help immigrants avoid common scams perpetrated by dishonest service providers. The guide is available in English, Spanish, French, and Haitian Creole.
