The New York State Department of State Division of Consumer Protection advocates for New York consumers and advances policy recommendations and legislation to the Governor and other policy makers.

Surveys and Campaigns
The Division engages the public in its advocacy efforts for greater consumer protections. Participate in one of the Division's marketplace surveys or campaigns.

Energy and Utility Intervention
The Division is the sole agency to appear on behalf of consumers before the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC), the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO). The Division's focus is on ensuring that utilities provide cost effective and quality service. Reports and Testimony
The Division advances policy changes and regulatory reforms to make the marketplace more accountable, transparent and fair for consumers and businesses by participating in public hearings, providing testimony before State and federal regulators, issuing formal comments about legislative proposals and releasing reports.
