Playground Safety

Playground Safety For Parents, Gaurdians and Caregivers

You can help make the playground an entertaining and safe place for your children by following some basic safety guidelines and teaching kids how to play safely. To assist in this effort, the New York State Department of State Division of Consumer Protection offers the resources below.

Home Playground Safety Checklist
Follow this safety checklist issued by the Division, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Safe Kids USA to keep your children safe during their playground time.

Public Playground Safety

Operators of public playgrounds can reduce dangers by following recommended guidelines issued by the CPSC. As a State designee and New York's top consumer watchdog, the Division joins with the CPSC in urging those who construct or design playground equipment, school officials, child care personnel, inspectors, parents and community groups to make sure that all public playgrounds and equipment meet these safety standards.

CPSC Handbook for Public Playground Safety
The goal of this handbook is to promote greater safety awareness among those who purchase, install and maintain public playground equipment. In the interest of safety, public operators are encouraged to comply with the guidelines for public playground equipment.
